Search Engines

What is a search engine?

A search engine is an online service that helps you find other webpages and information on other webpages on the World Wide Web. Which of the following webpages have search engines?

http://www.google.com
http://www.yahoo.com
http://www.directory.com
http://www.ask.com

In this class, I recommend google.com. Why?

Google can find information very quickly.
It searches more webpages than most other search engines.
It has a spellcheck. If you spell something wrongly, Google wioll guess what you want to know!
Google has a cache system which will highlight your key words.

Remember think very clearly about your keywords!! It will speed up your search.

Task: Today we are going to use Google to find some answers to some questions.

1) When is David Beckham's birthday?
2) What are his two sons called?
3) Who won the Academy Award for best actress this year at the Oscars?
